OVERVIEW OF MEDIA CENTER 


The Henderson Middle School Media Center is an engaging learning environment that connects students and staff to treasures in diverse formats that improve learning 4-life.  Resources include more than 8,500 books, 26 databases, 12 magazines and numerous online tools to support teaching and learning.  Students have access to 18 computers. 

Book fairs, Reading challenges, Poetry contests, and bi-monthly Book Discussion club are sponsored by the media center.  Moreover, our club members are blogging and interacting with others about books read.  Orientation classes are provided when needed.   

POLICY AND PROCEDURES ·

1. Two books may be checked out for two weeks ·       

2. One magazine (back issues only) may be checked out for one day ·       

3. Books may be renewed if and only if there are no holds ·       

4. Students with overdue Books are prohibited from checking out additional resources     

MISSION 

The mission of the media center is to provide a wealth of resources, information, and technology to develop critical thinking skills, embrace innovative tools and research skills to stay engaged and motivated to learn 4-life.

Helping Students Gain New Learning and Useful Information! The media specialist, teachers and learners meet 180 days a year working together to build the bridge to offering a fresh look at  information technology.   

HENDERSON MEDIA SPECIALIST

The Media Specialist for Henderson Middle School is Dr. Foster. Q: When is the Media Center open?
A:The Media Center is open from 8:15 am to 3:15 pm.

Q: How can I find information about a specific topic on the Internet?
A: Use a SEARCH ENGINE. All search engines operate about the same.You type in the keyword(s) for your search and the search engine will find hits that match your request. If the results are not satisfactory, you may want to refine your key search words. There are numerous search engines that can be used.

Q: How can I found out what the Henderson Media Center has relating to my topic?
A: On the desktop of each computer there is an icon labeled HMS DESTINY. Click on this icon, and it will open the Media Center’s catalog. Click on “Search” and type in the subject, title, or author you are seeking. The search results will appear on the screen.
