Regional Preschool Learning Centers

Children are ready to learn. They cultivate 85 percent of their intellect, personality and skills by age five. Young children need real interactions in order to learn. The first five years are also when children build the social and emotional skills they need to succeed in school. On the first day of kindergarten, teachers expect children to be able to follow directions, start and finish projects, and know when they need to ask for help.

Head Start and the Virginia Preschool Initiative Programs (VPI) offer three and four year olds a quality preschool experience. Richmond Public Schools has four Preschool Learning Centers in addition to several Head Start and VPI classrooms throughout the City. The preschool centers are Blackwell, Mary Scott, Martin Luther King, Jr., and Maymont.

Our Preschool Learning Centers are where students are in a total preschool environment, not part of a ‘big school.’

We welcome your visit to find out more about our schools, our teachers, and what a great difference preschool makes.
