Professional and personal support is an essential ingredient when planning for your future. Richmond Public Schools provides a mentor/protégé program. Our new teachers are paired with seasoned professionals. Each mentor assists you in exploring your professional educator environment. You will be part of a larger network and encouraged to take advantage of advanced degree programs, fellowships and grant opportunities.

Nearly 200 partnerships with area colleges, corporations and civic groups. An elected, nine-member school board with a 2–year term. Educators have received Virginia awards for outstanding earth science teacher, outstanding school social worker, and induction in the Virginia High School Hall of Fame. Richmond City teachers have won Virginia Council on Economic Education awards for their instructional units. Nationally, teachers and staff have received the Outstanding Art Administrator award and The Presidential Award for Teaching Excellence. Professional competition, innovation and excellence travel "hand-in-hand" in Richmond's public schools. System-wide publications are designed to inform stakeholders — from parents to administrators — of school system news, awards and achievements. Publications include: The Parents Exchange; The Advisor; The Partnership Network; and The School Bell, which have won awards from the National School Public Relations Associations.
